Tap Water Safety in North America

North America splits sharply at the Rio Grande. The United States and Canada maintain EPA- and Health Canada-regulated systems that are safe nationwide. Mexico and most of Central America are a different story — municipal treatment exists, but aging pipes and intermittent pressure make bottled water the norm. The Caribbean varies island by island, with desalination-dependent nations often faring better than expected.
